The contrast between the Rudd Government's efforts to do what polluting companies request and their utter disregard for the advice and requests of the renewable energy sector could not be starker, the Australian Greens said today.
The snippet of extra information on the design of the Solar Flagships scheme put out by Minister Ferguson today shows that the Government has completely disregarded the advice of the renewable energy industry as to how to design a scheme that will work to stimulate the base-load solar power.
"The Solar Flagships program is looking more and more like a 'Hollow Men' stunt to distract attention from the Government's failures on renewable energy with a great big impressive sum of money," Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Senator Christine Milne said.
"The contrast between the Government's kids gloves approach for polluters and their compete disregard for renewable energy companies could note be starker.
"Why is the Government willing to pay such close attention to the demands of polluters, and give them almost everything they want, but ignore the most simple and obvious requests of the clean, clever and jobs-rich renewable energy industry?
"The Solar Flagships program looks set to follow the rooftop solar rebate, the solar schools rebate, the remote and regional renewable energy program and now the renewable energy target into the dustbin of badly designed policies that are doomed to failure.
"Actions speak louder than words, and, while this Government's words sound lovely, their actions are devastating to renewable energy workers and everyone in the community who understands the climate crisis."
