Greens Deputy Leader, Christine Milne called on the government to immediately reveal what plans it has to compensate Green Loans assessors who have been left facing financial ruin following the collapse of yet another business in the sector.
"Approximately 150 assessors discovered today that the cooperative handling their customer flow and payments, GLACO, folded earlier in the week. Who will pay them now for the work they have done?
"Australia already knows the utter debacle that is the Government's Green Loans scheme, but what we have now is proof that the debacle is becoming an ongoing nightmare with more people being affected every day.
"Minister Wong knows that action must be taken immediately because each of these assessors is a working family too.
"As Minister Wong ponders what course to take, there are assessors out there losing their homes, and now, with the collapse of GLACO, an extra 150 assessors have joined the list of people facing ruin.
"When will this end?
"I'm not sure if Prime Minister Rudd realises the enormity of the problem his government has caused. The constituent who called my office today was in tears. Her $5400 investment has gone, her income has vanished, there is no way of making payments on her mortgage and she has nowhere to turn as the government refuses to talk to her as she is a contractor of the collapsed company.
"The government implemented this scheme as a way to help Australian families ‘go green'; I want to know what the government is doing now to prevent Australian families from going broke."
