Prime Minister & Cabinet

The Australian Greens in the Parliament have worked constructively to negotiate better outcomes for the community.

The Greens believe in transparency and accountability in government. We would establish a Parliamentary Integrity Commissioner to investigate and prevent misconduct and corruption in Commonwealth agencies and parliament, and establish an independent arbitration of disagreements with the Executive over the powers of the Senate to access Government documents in the public interest.

In this minority government we have set up a Parliamentary Budget Office which will provide costings of policies independent of the Treasury and we have ensured that annually MPs debate the deployment of our troops in Afghanistan. We have dedicated time in both Houses for voting on bills and motions put forward by non Government MPs, allowing consideration of fresh and innovative ideas put forward by the Greens.
