Regional Australia
The Greens believe that a vibrant rural and regional Australia will be the key driver of our country’s prosperity and well-being as we confront the challenges of a patchwork domestic economy and global uncertainty created by climate change and peak oil.
The Greens want regional Australia to become a powerhouse of innovation. To achieve this, we must secure the health (including mental health), education, creativity and well-being of rural communities, no matter how remote, and grasp the opportunities offered by renewable energy to rural communities, and building carbon stores in the landscape.
Preventing the indiscriminate sell-off of farm land and water, keeping farmers on the land, addressing feral animals and weeds and driving increased agricultural productivity without increasing energy inputs are key priorities.
