Climate change, Clean Energy Economy
The Greens understand and respect the science of climate change. We know that swift action to reduce the pollution that heats our planet is vital if we are to avoid devastating consequences, and we do everything we can to get Australia closer and closer to that kind of action.
We are proud of what we achieved in negotiations for the Clean Energy Future package, particularly the investments in clean, renewable energy and the design of a carbon price scheme which has complete flexibility to be strengthened over time. The creation of an independent expert Climate Change Authority to recommend 5 year rolling carbon budgets means we have a new opportunity every year to lift the ambition of Australia’s action closer and close to what the science demands.
We have a lot of work to do to make Australia’s climate action match the demands of the science, but, thanks to the Greens’ efforts, we are closer than ever.
