First day of parliament should be Gonski, not instability

Media Release
Christine Milne 22 Mar 2013

"Today I am calling on the Prime Minister to introduce the full Gonski school reforms when parliament resumes in May," Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

"Unless the Government introduces the legislation in Budget week we risk the reforms not being bedded down before the election.

"Don't make the first day of parliament the Tony Abbott day of instability. Instead, we should be putting a smile on the faces of students, parents and teachers across the country by putting the funding schedule into Gonski legislation.

"We have seven weeks to focus on fair funding for schools in the budget, that means pressurising states through COAG and taking it up to Tony Abbott who doesn't support a fair funding model.

"It would be a tragedy if the only thing people talk about between now and the budget is Tony Abbott's no confidence motion rather than shining a light on his policy failure on school funding."
