Greens pitch to Queensland: Newman & Abbott are the same bad deal on environment

Australian Greens leader Senator Christine Milne reinforced the connection between Campbell Newman and Tony Abbott in the eyes of the electorate, while in Brisbane today.

“Tony Abbott and Campbell Newman have the same arrogant agenda that is anti-environment and makes life harder for everyday people,” Senator Milne said.

“Together they have inflicted more than 50 attacks on Queensland’s environment, including approving the world’s largest coal port in the Great Barrier Reef.

“Queenslanders have an important opportunity to send a message to Campbell Newman and Tony Abbott that the state’s environment, tourism and agriculture are worth more than their big mining mates’ private profits and political donations,” Senator Milne said.

Queensland Greens lead spokesperson Dr Charles Worringham said:

"The best way to send a message that our environment and climate matter is to vote 1 Green.

“Campbell Newman wants to flog off our public assets to pay big mining companies to dig up the Galilee Basin. Labor last week recommitted to supporting coal and when Labor was in power, we saw a rush of CSG approvals.

“The Greens are the only party to trust on the environment both in the Parliament and the community.

"Were promoting a healthy diverse economy for Queensland that is bigger than just coal and casinos.

“We want to create new jobs and lower power bills through renewable energy, instead of sacrificing our environment and climate for the sake of the big end of town,” Dr Worringham said.
