President Obama's realism on global warming has shown up the small minded Prime Minister of Australia, says Greens Leader Christine Milne.
"Barack Obama has shown just how small and last century Tony Abbott is," Senator Milne said.
"The G20 is meant to be addressing the overwhelming problems of our age but Tony Abbott is showing what a small minded and insignificant player he is by whining about domestic politics instead.
"It beggars belief that Tony Abbott has made such a fool of himself, boasting about abolishing an emissions trading scheme in front of a room of people who are committed to taking action on global warming.
"So much more needs to be done to stop dangerous global warming. I welcome President Obama putting $3 billion on the table for the Green Climate Fund and call on Tony Abbott to reverse his bloody minded opposition to helping developing countries, particularly in the Pacific, adapt to the global warming impacts they are already experiencing.
"China and the US have shown they will act, but Tony Abbott is taking us backwards and isolating us further from the rest of the world. This is more than an embarrassment, it is object of national shame.
"President Obama is calling for the world to respect the science. But Tony Abbott does everything he can to ignore it in order to protect the big end of town.
"What's next? Will Tony Abbott boast to the G20 he abolished our ministry for science?
"While our last century government tinkers at the sidelines of global diplomacy, the Greens will continue to push for true leadership and real action to address the greatest challenge of this century - global warming."
