Energy White Paper a pamphlet for fossil fuels

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne says the government's Energy White Paper needs to be binned along with the Warburton review into the RET, as both have been written to protect the profits of the Coalition's mates in the fossil fuel sector.

"This Energy White Paper is nothing more than a pamphlet by the wholly-owned subsidiary of the coal industry that is the Abbott government," said Senator Milne.

Three down, another to go: Drop the attack on Renewable Energy Target

Now that the community and the Parliament have forced the Abbott Government to back down on its backward and ideological policies attacking the sick, our universities, students and pensioners, it's time to intensify the campaign and force the Prime Minister to drop the attack on renewable energy, Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne said today.

"Minister Macfarlane asks who is creating the RET uncertainty now? There is only one answer. You are," said Senator Milne.

PM Abbott a coal lobbyist at international negotiations

Greens Leader Christine Milne says it's no surprise that Australian officials have been instructed to try to protect fossil fuel subsidies at the OECD.

"The Abbott government is a wholly owned subsidiary of the coal industry. There's no other way of looking at it," said Senator Milne.

"Anyone who was unsure if the government's attack on the Renewable Energy Target was anything other than attempt to prop up coal would now be in no doubt.

RET supporters must stand up to Liberal wreckers

Greens Leader Christine Milne says now is no time to settle on a lower Renewable Energy Target, which would lock in lower investment, fewer jobs, and a smaller cut to carbon pollution.

"If the government wants to fix uncertainty in the renewable energy industry, they can do it today. All it takes is for Mr Abbott to back off his cut to the RET, the way he's backed down on Medicare and university fees," said Senator Milne.

Abbott Cabinet deep in climate change delusion, spin

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne says the government's global warming denial is on full display today, as new figures show pollution has increased since the repeal of the carbon price.

"The depth of this government's denial is alarming. They're condemning Australia to economic dislocation, to being way behind the rest of the word, and to making life harder and more dangerous for everyone in our region, as extreme fires and storms intensify," said Senator Milne.

Say no: RET cut another act of intergenerational theft

The Greens are calling on Labor to reject the Abbott government's ‘offer' to cut the Renewable Energy Target.

"This is just like the government's cuts to Medicare and universities. Attacking clean energy is bad policy that will cost Australians, immediately and for generations to come," said Greens Leader Christine Milne.

"Labor must not shake on a bad deal that will destroy renewable energy, destroy jobs, drive power bills up, and keep Australia reliant on dirty power.

Greens move for Intergenerational Report reality check

Greens Leader Christine Milne will this afternoon introduce the Greens' bill to require that Australia's Intergenerational Reports be conducted by the independent Parliamentary Budget Office and allow a rewrite of this year's politically laden report.

"The 2015 Intergenerational Report was a partisan disgrace. Australians deserve a realistic road map for the next 40 years that takes into account the physical and economic impacts of global warming, and one that reflects our ambition to close the gap for First Australians," said Senator Milne.

Attack on RET another cruel Abbott government cut

Greens Leader Christine Milne says Labor must stay strong and force the Abbott government to back down on cuts to the Renewable Energy Target, the way it is being forced to back down on cuts to universities and Medicare.

"The RET is not broken; the old model of energy generation is broken, but the Liberals are intent on propping it up as long as possible," said Senator Milne.

"Australia's energy future is in renewables, and so are the jobs. If Labor helps the Liberals with this, they'll be destroying jobs and one of the last climate policies standing.
