Abbott government writes blank cheque to US

Greens Leader Christine Milne says Australia is witnessing mission creep in action, as the Foreign Minister says 'no boots on the ground,' but commits to joining an expanded military engagement in Iraq as soon as a formal request is made.

Greens urge Minister Bishop to speak up

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne has written to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, urging her to publicly condemn a massive land grab in the West Bank.

"Israel's announcement that it has appropriated nearly 1000 acres of land in the West Bank is deeply concerning," said Senator Milne.

"It is claimed to be the biggest land-seizure in 30 years and puts at risk the recent ceasefire agreement, damaging the potential for a long-term resolution of the conflict.

Greens call to protect people from being forcibly "disappeared"

On the UN's International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne says Australia must step up to help.

"State-sanctioned disappearance is a widespread problem in our region and Australia needs to actively participate in improving this horrible situation," said Senator Milne.

"It's shocking that recent UN figures show the Philippines, Nepal, Timor Leste, India and Indonesia each have hundreds of reviewed and outstanding cases.

Parliament must debate any military engagement in Iraq - Greens

With reports coming out of the United States of possible Australian military involvement in Iraq and Syria, Greens Leader Christine Milne says it is essential that any decision to deploy our military is brought to the parliament.

"It is essential that PM Abbott commits immediately to bring any debate about the deployment of Australian military to the parliament for debate," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.
