Government must release Infrastructure Australia greenhouse audit

The Government must release the greenhouse gas impact assessments made by Infrastructure Australia for all projects assessed thus far, the Australian Greens said today.

Infrastructure Australia's Michael Deegan told Senate Estimates hearings today that greenhouse gas ratings were provided to the Government for every project assessed. Minister Conroy, who promised transparency on greenhouse gas emissions in the Second Reading debate on the bill, did not release the ratings but rather took the request on notice.

Senator «MILNE» -Tasmania is very interested in roads. I want to know about the East Tamar Highway. I understand that when the coalition allocated the money for that it was on condition that the pulp mill was built. I want to know if the money is conditional on the pulp mill being built or whether they are upgrading the East Tamar Highway and when we are going to see any money for it.

Infrastructure stimulus must protect climate; Unions see jobs in climate protection

New infrastructure funding in the coming Federal Budget must help reduce Australia's greenhouse emissions and create jobs in climate protection, the Australian Greens said today.

In giving evidence to hearings of the Senate Select Committee on Climate Policy in Melbourne today, ACTU Secretary Sharran Burrow and the AMWU's Dave Oliver spoke of the tremendous jobs potential in moving to rapidly reduce Australia's greenhouse emissions.
