Greens Leader Christine Milne says it's time for Treasurer Hockey to accept his budget has failed, instead of trying to trick the Australian people into accepting cruel cuts.

"The Treasurer keeps claiming there are no alternatives to his brutal attacks on the sick, the elderly, students and the unemployed. There are, but it will mean ending the age of entitlement at the big end of town," said Senator Milne.

"Just ditching tax breaks for big mining companies would boost the government accounts by $10 billion over the forward estimates.

Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne says Joe Hockey can't expect to grow Australia's economy with policies that deepen inequality and worsen global warming.

"Climate has stolen the show at the G20, in spite of the Abbott government," said Senator Milne.

"Joe Hockey and Tony Abbott are completely wedged between their big business mates who want to carry on polluting for profit, and the world leaders who've come to Australia declaring it's time for a massive shift.

Greens Leader Christine Milne says the Senate inquiry she initiated to investigate corporate tax avoidance will examine new evidence of widespread and shocking profit shifting to tax haven Luxembourg.

Greens Leader Christine Milne says Prime Minister Abbott is setting Australia up to fail in the eyes of the G20, by ignoring global warming and playing domestic politics on the international stage.

"Tony Abbott is promising the G20 he'll deliver on some of his cruel budget cuts that have already been denounced by the Senate and the community as unacceptable," said Senator Milne

"Using the G20 to wedge the Senate is another crash or crash through tactic, but it's going to backfire on the Abbott government.

The Australian Greens say Tony Abbott has no respect for the Parliament the Australian people elected.

"Tony Abbott is trying to sneak his toll road fund through the back door. He has zero respect for the Parliament that the Australian people elected," Greens Leader Christine Milne said.

"With his born-to-rule mentality Tony Abbott thinks he should get whatever he wants.

"It appears Tony Abbott will stop at nothing to build toll roads from one end of the country to the other.

Greens Leader Christine Milne says the reaction to trade barriers imposed by China on coal imports highlights the risks attached to the Abbott government's determination to protect old industry and big business profits.

"It's clear the main reason the Abbott government wants a Chinese free trade deal is to underpin coal mining expansion in the Bowen and Galilee Basins and expanded export volumes into the long term. Protecting the profits of the vested interests of the big end of town is his specialty," Senator Milne said.

The Senate has just voted in favour of a Greens motion to launch an inquiry into corporate tax evasion, in the lead-up to the G20 summit.

"On the same day that Labor has facilitated some of Joe Hockey's cruel budget cuts, the Greens have launched an inquiry to end the age of entitlement for the big end of town," said Greens Leader Christine Milne.

"Instead of pulling safety nets out from under people in our community who most need support, the Abbott government should look for ways to raise revenue from those who can afford to pay.
