Safer alternatives to boats - we can save lives

Leader of the Australian Greens Senator Christine Milne, Greens Immigration spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and Pamela Curr, campaign coordinator at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre held a press conference today to launch a new video featuring Afghan refugee and human rights spokesperson Najeeba Wazefadost.

They commented on the Greens' and the refugee sector's push for safer pathways for refugees ahead of the Expert Panel handing down their recommendations next week, and call on the government to compromise on their obsession with deterrents and punishment.

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown, Deputy Leader Christine Milne and Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim outline prospects for an economic transition in Tasmania. Abbott’s ill-considered remarks highlight need to acknowledge national day truths

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's suggestion, reiterated today, that it is time to "move on" are dismissive and unhelpful, and further mask Australia Day truths that need to be acknowledged, Acting Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne said.

"Mr Abbott's ill-considered remarks demonstrate the need to officially recognise all elements of Australia Day so that we can work towards a truly national day, Senator Milne said in Brisbane.

Greens back anti hate election pledge

It's time for all politicians and all political parties to demonstrate leadership and to end the use of bigotry and hatred as an election tool, says Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Christine Milne.

Senator Milne today signed a pledge offered by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community asking for all parties to refrain from inciting hatred against LGBT people during the federal election campaign.
